Oscars 2017 live: PWC apologise after La La Land-Moonlight Best Picture mistake: ‘the presenters were given the wrong envelope’

La La Land was announced as the best film winner at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday night – but then had to hand the award over to Moonlight after a mistake was noticed in what was the most dramatic moment in the history of the Academy Awards.

In extraordinary scenes, the La La Land team were halfway through their victory speeches when it was noticed that the wrong film name had been read out by Warren Beatty and that Moonlight was actually the winner.

“There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you won best picture,” Jordan Horowitz, La La Land producer, announced to the gasps of a shocked crowd. He held up the card clearly showing the winner was Moonlight.

Faye Dunaway speaks about the La La Land Best Picture mix-up

Nick Allen, our man in LA, caught up with Dunaway at the Vanity Fair party, where she stood at a white table near the bar sipping a cocktail from a tumbler and clutching a white purse, still wearing her Oscar dress.

The actress said: “It was very quick, I can’t talk about it. The card read that way. It was a very odd thing.”

Dunaway stressed that her Bonnie and Clyde cast-mate wasn’t to blame: “It wasn’t Warren’s fault.”

She then chatted with a male companion about house moving before leaving the party at 12.45am.

John Bishop’s Week of Hell

I always listen to Radio 1 on the way to work and this week they’ve been following comedian John Bishop as he undertakes a week of hell for Sport Relief. What he is doing is so unbelievable I just had to write about it.

He is cycling, running and rowing from Paris to London in just 5 days!

He set off yesterday from the Eiffel Tower on an 185-mile cycle ride to the coast. I think that alone would take me at least 5 days! After briefly falling off his bike at traffic lights in Paris, he carried on and made it to the coast at 4 o’clock in the morning!

After a massage he managed a pitiful 1 hour sleep before getting up for today’s leg of the journey…rowing across the channel with Davina McCall, Freddie Flintoff and Denise Lewis. At least he had some company I suppose. But on Radio 1 this afternoon he struggled to speak, with Davina having to take the phone off him to update listeners.

Having successfully completing today’s leg he was updated with the total raised so far and was overwhelmed by the response. Tomorrow he starts 3 days of marathons to reach London where he’ll finish at Trafalgar Square on Friday.

John Bishop hopes to still be laughing at the end of his week of hell and to have raised enough money for 250,000 children to be vaccinated against deadly diseases. He knows that it costs just £5 to prevent a child from getting 5 of the deadliest diseases.

You can help keep John laughing by sponsoring him on the official sport relief site

Today’s celebrity fact is that according to the sport relief site John Bishop has burned over 16,000 calories at time of writing – that is some serious weight loss plan! Click here to find out his new total and to donate.
